CVE-2026-96641

MEDIUM
6.5
CVSS v3
NVD

Description

Pillow is a Python imaging library. Prior to 13.0.0, PILfont text-width accumulation in src/_imaging.c checks positive glyph advances against INT_MAX but does not check negative advances against INT_MIN. Repeating a signed 16-bit advance of -32768 can therefore execute a signed C integer overflow in xsize += dx, producing a large positive width from a negative mathematical result. Applications that use getlength(), getsize(), or derived layout, quota, serialization, or allocation calculations can experience logic-integrity errors or resource consumption, while the high-level mask path commonly retains a decompression-bomb check. This issue is fixed in version 13.0.0.

Common questions

How do I fix CVE-2026-96641?

Upgrade pillow on debian unstable to 13.0.0-1 or later.

Is CVE-2026-96641 being actively exploited?

Not that we know of. CVE-2026-96641 is not in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Its EPSS score of 0.35% is the estimated probability that it will be exploited in the next 30 days. That is higher than 28% of all scored CVEs.

How severe is CVE-2026-96641?

CVE-2026-96641 has a CVSS v3 base score of 6.5, rated medium. CVSS rates the technical impact if the vulnerability is exploited, not how likely that is, so weigh it alongside the exploit-prediction score when you decide what to patch first.

What does CVE-2026-96641 affect?

Published advisories record a fix for pillow (Debian). Only products with a sourced advisory are listed, so treat this as what we can cite rather than a complete inventory.
