CVE-2026-57198
LOWDescription
Asterisk is an open source private branch exchange and telephony toolkit. In affected deployments, an authenticated attacker may cause a `T.140 RED` heap buffer overflow using carefully crafted packets, potentially allowing remote code execution or causing Asterisk to crash. The `chan_sip` channel driver must be installed and configured, and its `textsupport` option must be enabled; `textsupport` defaults to no. `The chan_sip driver was deprecated in Asterisk 20 and completely removed in all later versions.` Repository comparisons verify patch containment in Asterisk 20.20.1, 21.12.3, 22.10.1 and 23.4.1, and Certified Asterisk 20.7-cert11 and 22.8-cert3. The affected release-track scope remains unresolved: structured metadata includes later release tracks even though the advisory says the required `chan_sip` driver was removed there.

Common questions
How do I fix CVE-2026-57198?
Upgrade asterisk on debian unstable to 1:22.10.1+dfsg+~cs6.17.60671434-1 or later.
Is CVE-2026-57198 being actively exploited?
Not that we know of. CVE-2026-57198 is not in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Its EPSS score of 0.83% is the estimated probability that it will be exploited in the next 30 days. That is higher than 57% of all scored CVEs.
How severe is CVE-2026-57198?
CVE-2026-57198 has a CVSS v4 base score of 2.3, rated low. CVSS rates the technical impact if the vulnerability is exploited, not how likely that is, so weigh it alongside the exploit-prediction score when you decide what to patch first.
What does CVE-2026-57198 affect?
Published advisories record a fix for asterisk (Debian). Only products with a sourced advisory are listed, so treat this as what we can cite rather than a complete inventory.
