CVE-2026-16313

MEDIUM
7.5
CVSS v3
NVD

Description

A flaw was found in sg3_utils. The sg_inq command, when invoked with the --export option, outputs device identification data without sanitizing control characters in SCSI name string fields. A newline character embedded in a device-supplied name string can inject arbitrary properties into the udev device database. This could allow an attacker who can present a crafted SCSI device to execute arbitrary commands as root when the device is disconnected.

Common questions

How do I fix CVE-2026-16313?

Published advisories record a fix for 20 affected products. The "How to fix" section on this page lists the fixed version and source advisory for each one, so apply the entry matching what you actually run.

Is CVE-2026-16313 being actively exploited?

Not that we know of. CVE-2026-16313 is not in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Its EPSS score of 0.27% is the estimated probability that it will be exploited in the next 30 days. That is higher than 19% of all scored CVEs.

How severe is CVE-2026-16313?

CVE-2026-16313 has a CVSS v3 base score of 7.5, rated moderate. CVSS rates the technical impact if the vulnerability is exploited, not how likely that is, so weigh it alongside the exploit-prediction score when you decide what to patch first.

What does CVE-2026-16313 affect?

Published advisories record a fix for rhcos-aarch64 (Rocky), rhcos-aarch64 (Red Hat / RHEL), rhcos-ppc64le (Rocky), rhcos-ppc64le (Red Hat / RHEL), and 16 more. Only products with a sourced advisory are listed, so treat this as what we can cite rather than a complete inventory.
