CVE-2026-119284
MEDIUMDescription
joserfc is a Python library that provides an implementation of several JSON Object Signing and Encryption (JOSE) standards. Prior to 1.7.6, joserfc compact JWS deserialization calls bytes.split() before enforcing the existing aggregate segment-size limits. When attacker-controlled compact serialization bytes reach deserialize_compact(), the split creates copies of the header, payload, and signature segments before ExceededSizeError rejects them, causing an additional allocation approximately proportional to the supplied token. Requests that exhaust available process memory can therefore cause an availability failure even though signature verification fails. This issue is fixed in version 1.7.6.

Common questions
How do I fix CVE-2026-119284?
Upgrade joserfc on debian unstable to 1.7.7-1 or later.
Is CVE-2026-119284 being actively exploited?
Not that we know of. CVE-2026-119284 is not in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Its EPSS score of 0.19% is the estimated probability that it will be exploited in the next 30 days. That is higher than 9% of all scored CVEs.
How severe is CVE-2026-119284?
CVE-2026-119284 has a CVSS v4 base score of 6.9, rated medium. CVSS rates the technical impact if the vulnerability is exploited, not how likely that is, so weigh it alongside the exploit-prediction score when you decide what to patch first.
What does CVE-2026-119284 affect?
Published advisories record a fix for joserfc (Debian). Only products with a sourced advisory are listed, so treat this as what we can cite rather than a complete inventory.
