CVE-2026-119191

HIGH
7.5
CVSS v3
NVD

Description

Forge (also called node-forge) is a native implementation of Transport Layer Security in JavaScript. Prior to 1.4.1, the affected implementation used asn1.fromDer(), BIT STRING decoding, maxDepth to process the relevant input or security decision. node-forge decoded ASN.1 stored inside BIT STRING values without consistently applying the configured maxDepth limit and recursively retained copies at each nesting level. Crafted DER containing nested BIT STRINGs could cause excessive recursion, CPU use, and quadratic memory consumption during asn1.fromDer(). This issue is fixed in version 1.4.1.

Common questions

How do I fix CVE-2026-119191?

Upgrade forge to 1.4.1 or later.

Is CVE-2026-119191 being actively exploited?

Not that we know of. CVE-2026-119191 is not in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Its EPSS score of 0.43% is the estimated probability that it will be exploited in the next 30 days. That is higher than 37% of all scored CVEs.

How severe is CVE-2026-119191?

CVE-2026-119191 has a CVSS v3 base score of 7.5, rated high. CVSS rates the technical impact if the vulnerability is exploited, not how likely that is, so weigh it alongside the exploit-prediction score when you decide what to patch first.

What does CVE-2026-119191 affect?

Published advisories record a fix for forge (NVD). Only products with a sourced advisory are listed, so treat this as what we can cite rather than a complete inventory.
