CVE-2026-115909

HIGH
7.5
CVSS v3
NVD

Description

zip is a zip library for Rust that supports reading and writing simple ZIP files. From 1.3.0 until 9.0.0, ZipArchive::extract in src/read/mod.rs calls Vec::with_capacity for a symbolic link target using the attacker-controlled ZIP64 uncompressed_size before reading entry data. A small archive can request an impossible capacity, causing the infallible allocation path to abort the process before the entry is validated. The failure cannot be contained with catch_unwind or a worker thread, allowing repeated denial of service in archive-processing applications. This issue is fixed in version 9.0.0.

Common questions

How do I fix CVE-2026-115909?

Upgrade rust-zip on debian unstable to 9.0.5+ds-1 or later.

Is CVE-2026-115909 being actively exploited?

Not that we know of. CVE-2026-115909 is not in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Its EPSS score of 0.46% is the estimated probability that it will be exploited in the next 30 days. That is higher than 40% of all scored CVEs.

How severe is CVE-2026-115909?

CVE-2026-115909 has a CVSS v3 base score of 7.5, rated important. CVSS rates the technical impact if the vulnerability is exploited, not how likely that is, so weigh it alongside the exploit-prediction score when you decide what to patch first.

What does CVE-2026-115909 affect?

Published advisories record a fix for rust-zip (Debian). Only products with a sourced advisory are listed, so treat this as what we can cite rather than a complete inventory.
