CVE-2026-112398
CRITICALDescription
Pillow is a Python imaging library. Prior to 13.0.0, Pillow's FlashPix JPEG-tile decoder can write decoded scanlines beyond the allocated tile buffer. FlashPix (FPX) JPEG decoding selects raw mode LA with two bytes per pixel, while an unrecognized JPEG mode can be decoded as JCS_UNKNOWN with four components, causing ImagingJpegDecode to write four-component scanlines into the two-byte tile buffer. An attacker can supply a crafted OLE2 FlashPix file to an application with the optional olefile dependency installed that opens or thumbnails untrusted input. This can corrupt heap memory and may allow arbitrary code execution. This issue is fixed in version 13.0.0.

Common questions
How do I fix CVE-2026-112398?
Upgrade pillow on debian unstable to 13.0.0-1 or later.
Is CVE-2026-112398 being actively exploited?
Not that we know of. CVE-2026-112398 is not in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Its EPSS score of 0.32% is the estimated probability that it will be exploited in the next 30 days. That is higher than 24% of all scored CVEs.
How severe is CVE-2026-112398?
CVE-2026-112398 has a CVSS v4 base score of 9.2, rated critical. CVSS rates the technical impact if the vulnerability is exploited, not how likely that is, so weigh it alongside the exploit-prediction score when you decide what to patch first.
What does CVE-2026-112398 affect?
Published advisories record a fix for pillow (Debian). Only products with a sourced advisory are listed, so treat this as what we can cite rather than a complete inventory.
