CVE-2019-15847

HIGHEPSS 87th pctl
7.5
CVSS v3
NVD

Description

The POWER9 backend in GNU Compiler Collection (GCC) before version 10 could optimize multiple calls of the __builtin_darn intrinsic into a single call, thus reducing the entropy of the random number generator. This occurred because a volatile operation was not specified. For example, within a single execution of a program, the output of every __builtin_darn() call may be the same.

Is CVE-2019-15847 being actively exploited?

Not that we know of. CVE-2019-15847 is not in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Its EPSS score of 3.2% is the estimated probability that it will be exploited in the next 30 days. That is higher than 87% of all scored CVEs.

How severe is CVE-2019-15847?

CVE-2019-15847 has a CVSS v3 base score of 7.5, rated high. CVSS rates the technical impact if the vulnerability is exploited, not how likely that is, so weigh it alongside the exploit-prediction score when you decide what to patch first.
