CVE-2017-1000112
HIGHEPSS 97th pctlDescription
Linux kernel: Exploitable memory corruption due to UFO to non-UFO path switch. When building a UFO packet with MSG_MORE __ip_append_data() calls ip_ufo_append_data() to append. However in between two send() calls, the append path can be switched from UFO to non-UFO one, which leads to a memory corruption. In case UFO packet lengths exceeds MTU, copy = maxfraglen - skb->len becomes negative on the non-UFO path and the branch to allocate new skb is taken. This triggers fragmentation and computation of fraggap = skb_prev->len - maxfraglen. Fraggap can exceed MTU, causing copy = datalen - transhdrlen - fraggap to become negative. Subsequently skb_copy_and_csum_bits() writes out-of-bounds. A similar issue is present in IPv6 code. The bug was introduced in e89e9cf539a2 ("[IPv4/IPv6]: UFO Scatter-gather approach") on Oct 18 2005.

Common questions
How do I fix CVE-2017-1000112?
Published advisories record a fix for 30 affected products. The "How to fix" section on this page lists the fixed version and source advisory for each one, so apply the entry matching what you actually run.
Is CVE-2017-1000112 being actively exploited?
Not that we know of. CVE-2017-1000112 is not in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Its EPSS score of 20.8% is the estimated probability that it will be exploited in the next 30 days. That is higher than 97% of all scored CVEs.
How severe is CVE-2017-1000112?
CVE-2017-1000112 has a CVSS v3 base score of 7.0, rated high. CVSS rates the technical impact if the vulnerability is exploited, not how likely that is, so weigh it alongside the exploit-prediction score when you decide what to patch first.
What does CVE-2017-1000112 affect?
Published advisories record a fix for linux (Debian), linux (Ubuntu), linux-aws (Ubuntu), linux-gke (Ubuntu), and 26 more. Only products with a sourced advisory are listed, so treat this as what we can cite rather than a complete inventory.
