CVE-2019-9515

HIGHEPSS 100th pctl
7.5
CVSS v3
NVD

Description

Some HTTP/2 implementations are vulnerable to a settings flood, potentially leading to a denial of service. The attacker sends a stream of SETTINGS frames to the peer. Since the RFC requires that the peer reply with one acknowledgement per SETTINGS frame, an empty SETTINGS frame is almost equivalent in behavior to a ping. Depending on how efficiently this data is queued, this can consume excess CPU, memory, or both.

Common questions

How do I fix CVE-2019-9515?

Published advisories record a fix for 41 affected products. The "How to fix" section on this page lists the fixed version and source advisory for each one, so apply the entry matching what you actually run.

Is CVE-2019-9515 being actively exploited?

Not that we know of. CVE-2019-9515 is not in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Its EPSS score of 87.4% is the estimated probability that it will be exploited in the next 30 days. That is higher than 100% of all scored CVEs.

How severe is CVE-2019-9515?

CVE-2019-9515 has a CVSS v3 base score of 7.5, rated high. CVSS rates the technical impact if the vulnerability is exploited, not how likely that is, so weigh it alongside the exploit-prediction score when you decide what to patch first.

What does CVE-2019-9515 affect?

Published advisories record a fix for h2o (Debian), eap7-apache-commons-beanutils (Rocky), eap7-apache-commons-beanutils (Red Hat / RHEL), eap7-infinispan (Rocky), and 37 more. Only products with a sourced advisory are listed, so treat this as what we can cite rather than a complete inventory.
