CVE-2002-20001

HIGHEPSS 98th pctl
7.5
CVSS v3
NVD

Description

The Diffie-Hellman Key Agreement Protocol allows remote attackers (from the client side) to send arbitrary numbers that are actually not public keys, and trigger expensive server-side DHE modular-exponentiation calculations, aka a D(HE)at or D(HE)ater attack. The client needs very little CPU resources and network bandwidth. The attack may be more disruptive in cases where a client can require a server to select its largest supported key size. The basic attack scenario is that the client must claim that it can only communicate with DHE, and the server must be configured to allow DHE.

How do I fix CVE-2002-20001?

Published advisories record a fix for 4 affected products. The "How to fix" section on this page lists the fixed version and source advisory for each one, so apply the entry matching what you actually run.

Is CVE-2002-20001 being actively exploited?

Not that we know of. CVE-2002-20001 is not in the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. Its EPSS score of 23.1% is the estimated probability that it will be exploited in the next 30 days. That is higher than 98% of all scored CVEs.

How severe is CVE-2002-20001?

CVE-2002-20001 has a CVSS v3 base score of 7.5, rated high. CVSS rates the technical impact if the vulnerability is exploited, not how likely that is, so weigh it alongside the exploit-prediction score when you decide what to patch first.

What does CVE-2002-20001 affect?

Published advisories record a fix for arubaos-cx (NVD), big-ip access policy manager (NVD), stormshield management center (NVD), stormshield network security (NVD). Only products with a sourced advisory are listed, so treat this as what we can cite rather than a complete inventory.
